Genetically Modified Crops

Are GM crops safe for the environment?

Three issues crop up repeatedly when addressing this question:

  1. Is it possible to separate GM and non GM crops? And how will this affect organic farms?
     

A small world...

The European Union currently restricts the planting and importation of GM crops within Europe. Given that part of the reason for this is to not act until it is clear what the environmental effects are, it is ironic that Brazilian rainforest is being cleared to grow soya beans for the European market, as Europe won't eat US GM soya beans.  Learn more about this story
